Sometimes I forget to
allow the city to dominate.
I yearn to consent
as shadows of London
loom over.
Buildings as tall as fantasies,
skimming lights upon the river.
Imposing their assured landscape
with cranes that claw at clouds,
asking for that puff of heaven as we
clamber from the dregs of
histories hell.
Do I keep
my pounds of flesh
guarded?
Racing from place to place to place
in frothing eagerness in ever longing
hopefulness.
Should I succumb to the night calls
a bassline of vehicles in the beat of
their smog?
Yes.
Abandon reason to the gutters!
Deny a life of routine
and comfort.
Yet take time to pause,
as the dust of a blue sky
peering over the walls
sends shivers
down
my
spine.
